Our History - and Herstory!
NY Girls Baseball got its start after the Baseball For All National tournament in Rockford, Illinois in 2017. Seeing the excitement of girls from across the country competing in baseball, parents from the NY Metro area were determined to bring together girls from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut to build our own local teams.
In August 2018, the NY Wonders played in the Baseball For All National tournament in the 11U, 13U and 18U divisions. The 11U team won fourth place in their division and got the sportsmanship award, the 13U team won third place in their division, and the 18U team won second place!
In September 2018, the NY Wonders hosted the inaugural Maria Pepe Baseball Tournament in Edgewater, NJ. Honoring Maria Pepe, whose pioneering efforts allowed girls to play Little League baseball, teams came together from New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, DC, Rhode Island, and Quebec, Canada! The competition, sportsmanship, and mentoring for all the players was incredible, and helped to elevate the profile of NY Girls Baseball.
Today, NY Girls Baseball fields teams in five divisions at regional and national tournaments. Our teams include players from as far away as Ohio and Florida. NYGB welcomes all girls and women to play, especially those who have been told that baseball is only for boys. Current and former Wonders play for their middle school, high school, and college baseball teams, including NYGB Alumna Olivia Pichardo, the first woman to ever play Division I Baseball when she made the team at Brown University in 2023.
